2021 has been the year of Mountain Dew: from launching Baja Blast to bringing back hard soda, they’ve done it all. Now, they’ve launched Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew – which sold out almost instantly! Is it worth the hype, though? Let’s find out!
Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew Gains Unbelievable Success
That’s right! The taste of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and Mountain combined. While it might sound gross to most, the lucky ones who managed to grab one are part of Mountain Dew history, as Matt Nielsen, senior director of marketing at Pepsi Co., explained.
“As a brand, DEW has a rich history of experimenting with new flavors our fans love. We certainly had them in mind when we developed the FLAMIN’ HOT beverage,” Nielsen said in a press release. “This is one of our most provocative beverages yet, and we’re excited for DEW Nation to taste the unique blend of spicy and classic sweet citrus flavor of MTN DEW.”
The Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew was only sold on Mountain Dew’s online store, and, as you can imagine, it was a limited edition experiment. As such, the drink was only available in six-packs of 16-ounce cans and, within just one hour, the spicy-sweet soda sold out.
“MTN DEW FLAMIN’ HOT has sold out,” the DEW Twitter account shared. “We apologize to anyone who was in the process of trying to order when we sold out of our inventory. As always, stay tuned to our social channels for future Dew Store programs.”
Grab Merch While You’re At It
Didn’t grab some Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew cans? Don’t worry! You can pick a single can up on eBay for anywhere from $17 to $22. Want a review first? Well, Amanda Kooser from CNET said it’s not for everyone. She explained the spice is just mild, like some of the weaker hot sauces available. “There’s a distinctive peppery up-draft in the back of your throat and into your sinuses, even when you consume it the proper way through your mouth,” she said. “The citrus-and-spice combo is more melodious than with the infamous French’s Mustard Beer.”
There’s much more than just the soda, though. On September 5, Mountain Dew will release a Flamin’ Hot merch line, with brand Broken Promises, that will include shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, and accessories. As Mountain Dew has continued to release exciting soda products through both 2020 and 2021, don’t expect them to slow down as we enter into 2022!
