“Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry (1976)

An instant disco hit, “Play That Funky Music,” tore up the charts. It hit number one on the Billboard Top 100 in 1976, right when the disco craze was at its most intense. Along the way, it also became one of the biggest one hit wonders of all time! While it was the group’s only song to hit the Top 40, people still go crazy for “Play That Funky Music” at weddings and sporting events.

While “Play That Funky Music” propelled the band to fame, it did not last much longer for Wild Cherry. The band broke up three years later, in 1979, and have never reformed. Though, we’re sure their fans want them to!
