Who can forget the great Chicken Wars of 2019? Popeyes, KFC, McDonalds, and Chick-Fil-A all decided to try their hand at something new and no one could choose the best fried chicken sandwich. Well, Taco Bell decided to surprise everyone and join the chicken wars! Read on to discover their latest creation…
New Player Enters The Game
While most know Taco Bell for their Mexican-ish dishes and insane tacos, they’ve decided to try something a little different this time. Now, the chain has decided to add fried chicken into the menu and enter the chicken wars! To compete with Popeye’s, Chick-Fil-A, and the like, they are bringing the Crispy Tortilla Chicken Taco to the menu. If those citizens approve of the taste, Taco Bell wants to serve it all around the United States. So what is it exactly?
Going Through Trial
Don’t think that Taco Bell quickly threw the recipe together quickly to earn some quick bucks! In a press release, the food chain said they spent plenty of time working to make the Crispy Chicken Tortilla perfect. In fact, they tried over 100 chicken items before landing on this one! So what’s in a Crispy Chicken Tortilla? Well, Taco Bell starts by marinating the meat in a buttermilk and jalapeno marinade. Then, to make it crispy and Mexican-ish, they roll it tortilla chips instead of the traditional bread crumbs! Finally, they wrap it all in a tortilla with a creamy Chili Pepper Sauce. It’ll cost from $1.99 to $3.99, depending on the serving and amount of chicken pieces in the customer’s order.
Taco Bell will also serve the chicken on its own, in strip form, with a nacho cheese dipping sauce. Meanwhile, the chain will also place the chicken in their $5 and $7 meal boxes. They’re putting quite a few eggs into the fried chicken basket!
Why Chicken?
Many might wonder why the chicken wars even started. Well, after Popeye’s rocked the fast-food world with their new Fried Chicken Sandwich, everyone wanted to jump on board the train. In fact, it helped its company Restaurant Brands make the best quarterly results in a whopping 20 years! People couldn’t get enough of it. This also meant that the operator of most Popeye’s restaurants, Sun Holdings, decided to hire more people. This unusual economic boom brought at least two more employees per store, making the final number around 400 in more than 150 locations. Earnings have risen to 72 cents per share, too! That’s how the fried chicken war started, with everyone wanting to replicate Popeye’s numbers.
While it took Taco Bell a little longer to enter the Chicken Wars, they’re not leaving anytime soon. Representatives of Taco Bell say that if their fried chicken gains as much popularity as their Nacho Fries, they will release new items. What could they possibly be hiding? We can’t wait to see!
