Without a doubt, 2020 was one of the worst years on record. However, there were many people who tried to make it better – and they still are! Take this man, for example: one Ohio man spent $4,000 at a local Dunkin’ and managed to not take a thing for himself! Read on to discover one of the most charitable stories of the year…
Generous Ohio Man
While a local man, who wishes to remain anonymous, spent $4,000 at his local Dunkin’ in Beavercreek, Ohio, the lovely customer didn’t take home a single donut or coffee for himself. How’s that? Well, he picked up $4,000 gift cards. Even more impressive, the man didn’t use a single card on himself!
It all started off a little strange: a customer came to the drive-thru and asked for a very expensive gift card – one worth $1,000! Dunkin’ has rules against such large purchases through the drive-thru, so the man in question needed to come inside. However, it seems that going inside made the man’s generous nature bloom even further! Instead of a single $1,000, he now wanted to buy four of them. That’s right, a total of $4,000! As the mystery man explained, he wanted to help struggling small businesses, like this local coffee shop.
As anyone working in a restaurant can tell you, given the coronavirus, it’s been a terribly hard year for the food industry. As such, the Dunkin’ workers could not believe the man’s generosity. However, what he planned on doing with the cards truly made the Dunkin’ team’s jaws drop!
Spending $4,000 At Dunkin’
Of course, at first, the Dunkin’ employees thought the man would use the gift cards on himself, fueling his coffee addiction for the rest of the year. But that wasn’t his plan at all! Instead, he wanted the coffee house to pay it forward to the rest of the community of Beavercreek. After watching people struggle to feed themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic, this man wanted to help out where he could, at least for a little while. So, the mystery man asked the employees to use the gift cards for every order that came through until they ran out. “Food, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, you name it. It was all free,” store owner Samantha Owens said.
As you might imagine, the store employees could barely wrap their heads around the man’s incredibly kind request. “I think I probably asked him about a million times, ‘are you positive, are you sure?'” Owens recalled. However, time and time again, the man confirmed that’s exactly what he wanted. And then, just as quickly as he had appeared in the drive-thru line, the mysterious good samaritan left.
So, in the end, how many people this amazing man make happier? Well, Owens says that more than 300 orders placed at the Dunkin’ over the next day were paid for – how incredible! “He had really just wanted to explain how rough the year was and how he wanted to do any way he could to pay it forward, and this was his best way to pay it forward,” Owens said.
