Four hospital workers and friends decided to try their luck together – and now all four of them are millionaires after winning the lottery. They couldn’t believe their luck at first.
Spooky Winnings
Four hospital co-workers became millionaires overnight. Heewon (Theresa) Choi, Melanie Nolan, and their two unnamed colleagues at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia, love to play the lottery together. After forming the group, they preferred buying the Lotto 6/49 tickets. Choi became the captain of the team and bought tickets for them for about a year. Thankfully, on Halloween, it paid off! On October 31, four workers found themselves in possession of the $6 million jackpot and couldn’t believe their eyes. It was the biggest prize!
Although the team members used their birth dates and other important numbers to fill the tickets, they didn’t expect to win this fast. However, when Choi scanned their latest ticket at the office using the official lottery app, they learned that they really got the most of it. Eyes getting wide, Choi sat there shocked. “I couldn’t believe it,” she recalled. “I immediately showed it to Melanie who sits right next to me.” Nolan didn’t even read the number properly, stunned. “I thought it was $6,000 when she showed it to me,” she said. Other two co-workers laughed at it as a joke at first as well, not believing their eyes. “When the other two group members started their shift, Melanie and I told them,” Choi said. “They thought it was a joke!”
Treat, Not A Trick
Not only them, but even family members also had no idea they won so easily in such a short term. Nolan rushed to tell her partner about the jackpot, and they responded: “It’s not April Fools!” As for Choi, her loved ones were extremely pumped for her! The hospital worker’s dream finally came true. “I’ve always dreamed about being a millionaire, I feel like I’m in a dream,” she said. What about the spooky Halloween celebration for the group of four? While some throw a huge party and get urges to spend their money, these four have a modest goal – they want to have a big meal together. Perhaps, they’ll go to the restaurant. Nolan said she’d love to donate a part of her winning to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. Moreover, she wants to return to school.
The group hit all the winning numbers they could – 5, 8, 18, 22, 41, and 48 were all right on their ticket. The team followed the BCLC’s Group Play Agreement Form – they put Choi as the coordinator of the game. The lottery says it’s easier to have someone in charge of collecting money, buying the group’s tickets, and tracking results and winnings. But the four hospital workers weren’t the only one getting a big jackpot that week! Only a few days passed after the British Columbia man won $2 million. Brad Rowan from the Nanaimo had a $1 ticket for the BC/49 lotto and hit all lucky numbers: 6, 22, 26, 32, 38, and 45.
“Then I called my boss – I told him I was going to take the day off,” Rowan said.
