When a Denny’s waitress gave a customer couple she got along with some free ice cream, she thought that was the beginning and end of the story. However, later that day, the couple would return with the most amazing holiday gift ever: a new car for the waitress! Read on to discover one of the most heartwarming stories of the year…
Looking For Better Days
Adrianna Edwards, a Denny’s waitress, didn’t just wear sneakers everywhere because they looked cool. She had too, as Edwards needed to walk everywhere, due to her lack of a car. Instead of buying herself a car, Edwards put her money towards attending college. “I have bills to pay. I’ve got to eat. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,” she said. As a result, Edwards needed to walk for four hours to arrive at her workplace.
However, Edwards is not the type to complain. In fact, quite the opposite. She often gets along fantastic with customers, building bonds with them over short meals. A few weeks ago, Edwards met an older couple, and throughout the couple’s meal, they became quite friendly. They told Edwards about their lives, and she told them about her desire to go to college. At the end of the meal, Edwards treated them to some ice cream, as she had grown quite fond of the couple.
After the meal ended, the couple paid and tipped, then left. Edwards believed that was the end of it. Until the couple returned a few hours later. At first, the Denny’s waitress thought they had forgotten something. Until, that is, the couple handed her a set of keys. In fact, the couple had decided to gift the waitress a new car!
Fortunate Encounter
The generous couple decided to stay anonymous, but did let the waitress know why they had decided to give her such an incredible gift. They said that finding out that Edwards walked four hours to work, just to pay for college, was too much to bear. So, they went to a local used car dealership, and picked her up a silver 2011 Nissan Sentra! “She teared up, which made me happy that she was so moved by that,” the woman from the couple said.
As you might imagine, Edwards could not believe it! “In my head, I was like, “Pranks are cool and everything, but this one seems a tad bit cruel,’” the Denny’s waitress said, revealing her incredible shock. Now, her trip to work is just 30 minutes, instead of a four-hour walk.
Of course, Edwards wanted to give something back to the couple, but they declined. They simply asked her to be just as generous and helpful in the times where others struggle or meet sorrow. “I know it’s Thanksgiving, but I said Merry Christmas and that hopefully someday she’ll pay it forward,” the woman said. Edwards said she wants to do the same now, after experiencing utter happiness from other’s generosity.
“I still feel like I’m dreaming. Every two hours, I come look out my window and see if there’s still a car there. When I see somebody in need, I’ll probably be more likely to help them out to do everything that I can to help them out,” Edwards said.
