In 2020, the city of Tulsa wants to open its arms wide to freelance and remote workers. As such, the city will pay them $10,000 to move there! Not only that, but workers will also earn a laundry list of other perks, including free co-working space, housing leads, and invitations to local events. So what’s up with this incredible deal. Well, its all thanks to the George Kaiser Family Foundation, who funded the program, Tulsa Remote.
“We wanted to remove the barrier to come from other cities – and the money got people’s attention,” said the executive director of GKFF Aaron Bolzle. “Tulsa suffered from a lack of perception – we had an opportunity to expose the country and the world as to what was happening here.”
Now’s a great time for the program, as well. In recent years, more and more people, of all ages groups, have started to work remotely or exclusively freelancing. After all, with the internet, it’s now easier than ever. Plus, remote work allows for a personal schedule and more time at home. Research from the Society for Human Resource Management shows that today, more than 25% of companies let their employees work from home. So there are plenty of candidates for Tulsa Remote!
Grab A Chance
If those who want to move in terms of the program, there are several requirements. First, they should be able to move to Tulsa maximum in six months. Then, they have to work remotely outside Oklahoma full-time and be eligible to work in the United States. And the last one is to be over 18 years old, for obvious reasons. In case you fit perfectly, just take a chance and apply.
Tulsa’s not the most attractive place? There are so many others who have similar terms for moving, including Vermont, Maine, Hamilton, Ohio in the U.S., then the Greek island Antikythera and Albinen, Switzerland and lastly Candela, Italy. Of course, not everyone gives out money, but some places in the U.S. offer new transplants incentives. So, research other programs! Some have cool incentives like free land for building new homes or student-loan repayment assistance.
Tons Of Applications
Tempted to apply to Tulsa Remote? Then you’ll have to hurry! Last year, the program received more than 10,000 applications from about 150 countries and all 50 states. Yes, it’s global! Only about 100 of those were accepted and moved are leaving only good reviews about the city and overall community. Due to the overwhelming reactions, they decided to double the number of applicants accepted to 200!
Bolzle already feels overwhelmed by the eagerness and talent of participants. “Participants from this year blew away our expectations,” Bolzle said. “By more than doubling the number of participants this year, we can further our mission of attracting talented individuals from diverse backgrounds to Tulsa and connecting them to the incredible existing community.”
