Actor Matthew Perry, the iconic star behind Chandler on Friends, will author and release an official autobiography. In the book, he will talk about his years on the sitcom, substance abuse, and making his life a better one post-rehab.
Dark Reality Of Matthew Perry
Could we be anymore excited? Actor Matthew Perry, most famous for starring in the ‘90s sitcom Friends, recently secured a seven-figure deal with Flatiron Books, a division of Macmillan Publishing. Perry is the first of the main cast of Friends – which includes Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow – who has decided to release an autobiography.
“There has been so much written about me by others in the past,” Perry explained to People Magazine. “I thought it was time people heard it directly from the horse’s mouth. In this case, the horse’s mouth being me.” According to an interview with Deadline, the book “is set to be a candid and self-aware book told with his trademark humor, with Perry vividly detailing his lifelong battle with the disease [of addiction] and what fueled it despite seemingly having it all.”
While the book remains untitled, but Flatiron Books says it will release sometime in 2022. Meanwhile, Megan Lynch, the publisher of Flatiron Books, will edit Perry’s autobiography “We need humor, we need catharsis, and we need to agree on something–and Matthew’s extraordinary story, told in his inimitable voice, is that thing. Perry has had his highs and lows throughout his three-plus decades in the limelight,” Lynch said.
Enough To Fit Into Autobiography
While Perry has starred in classics like Friends, Almost Heroes, The Whole Nine Yards, and 17 Again, among many others, his life has not always been the best. While on Friends, the actor became addicted to Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol for years. His addictions eventually led Perry to rehab twice. During the recent Friends Reunion Show, the actor stated that working on the show gave him extreme anxiety.
“[I felt] like I was going to die if the [audience] didn’t laugh,” the actor revealed during the special. “It’s not healthy, for sure, but I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn’t laugh and I would sweat and just go into convulsions if I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get. I would freak out.”
Now, however, it seems that Perry is back on track and ready to share his story with the world. Meanwhile, many fans are also interested in learning about Perry’s dating life via his autobiography. In case you didn’t know, in the past, the actor has been linked to many star actresses, including Julia Roberts, Neve Campbell, Lauren Graham, and Lizzy Caplan.
