After nearly two decades, actor Kelsey Grammer will finally come back to his most beloved role. That’s right – the ’90s sitcom Fraiser is returning to the television screen in 2022!
Kelsey Grammer Secures The Role
For those who missed out on one of the biggest sitcoms of the ’90s, Fraiser, a spin-off of Cheers, featured Kelsey Grammer as the titular Dr. Frasier Crane, a Seattle psychiatrist learning to become a radio host. The original lasted for 11 seasons, from 1993 to 2004. Now, Julie McNamara, the Head of Programming for ViacomCBS’ streaming service Paramount+, has announced the reboot will premiere next year in 2022. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” Grammer stated. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”
While Grammer will return, he’s accompanied by new friends. New writers will include Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces), who will also produce alongside Grammer, Tom Russo (Blackish), and Jordan McMahon (Light as a Feather). It’s really no surprise that CBS has decided to bring Fraiser back. After all, the original won five Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series, and reboots have become all the rage.
Of course, while new blood is excellent, most Fraiser fans are wondering who else from the original will return as well…
Anticipated Frasier Reboot
After Fraiser Grammer, along with the other main stars, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin, and the late John Mahoney, all went on to enjoy long careers in Hollywood. Unfortunately, outside of Grammer, there have been no announcements about who else will return or what the new Fraiser will revolve around. However, some sources have stated that Hyde Pierce is currently in talks to return as Fraiser’s brother, Niles Crane. We’ll have to wait until 2022 to see who else joins this reboot!
“Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, President of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+.”
