If you were a wealthy celebrity, what kind of house features would you want? Probably a pool, beautiful dining room, home theater, or maybe even a rooftop garden. Well, these stars certainly went above and beyond with their strange mansions features…
Oprah’s Wine Cellar
After becoming the richest woman in the world, Oprah Winfrey picked up a massive mansion atop a mountain in Telluride, Colorado. Bob Wall, a tech entrepreneur, sold the TV mogul the property for a whopping $14 million.
While the mansion includes five bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms, a home theater, and a host of other features, one stands apart from the rest: its themed wine cellar! It’s not real, but this wine cave looks like an antique mine shaft, complete with an actual cart that runs along tracks. Also, it’s filled with special effects like the sound of water dripping down!
Lady Gaga’s Bowling Alley
What can top a wine cave? Well, Lady Gaga built herself a private bowling alley while trying to spice up her Malibu home. It might only have two lanes, but there’s never any waiting! The Mediterranean-style villa cost her $2.3 million in 2014, but its anyone’s guess how much the bowling alley addition cost. Meanwhile, the childlike mansion also includes a game room, an 8-stall horse stable, and yet another home theater!
It’s not all kids stuff though: like Oprah, Gaga loves wine and also built a wine cellar. Nothing spooky or themed about that one, though.
Notch’s Candy Room
Markus Persson, or Notch, the creator behind the massive game Minecraft, really loves sweets! So, instead of pools, horse stables, or wine cellars, he decided to add a candy room to his $70 million mansion. Believe it or not, the candy room cost the video game designer another $50,000 to put in, and who knows how much to keep it fully stocked at all times.
John Travolta’s Private Airport
While you know John Travolta as a giant Hollywood star, you might not know that he loves to fly planes. In fact, he’s even flown commercial flights for the Australian company Qantas. So, when he purchased his mansion far away from Tinseltown in Florida, Travolta made sure it came with a runway big enough to land his two personal planes: a Challenge jet a full-blown 707. Meanwhile, the entire house as an aviation theme throughout.
Paris Hilton’s Dog Mansion
Without a doubt, Paris Hilton has one of the most infamous celebrity mansion features of all time. In fact, its a second mansion, this one just for her dog! Not only that, its a complete replica of her mansion, just in a smaller size. It comes complete with air conditioning, heating, designer furniture, and a chandelier inside. All for a dog! That’s better than some New York City apartments!
Bill Gates’ Trampoline Room
Strange celebrity mansions only get stranger with money. For proof, just look at Microsoft’s creator, Bill Gates. Of course, many are familiar with his $63 million mansion in Medina, Washington. One of the greatest technological achievements in architecture, the mansion has some of the newest tech installed. It also happens to have a 2,500-square-foot trampoline room! Gates said that it seemed too extra to him, but he created it for the sake of his children.
So, be it a full airport or a room for candy and trampoline – it feels like people invest their money into their hobbies or even childhood dreams. Soon-to-be-rich people should take notes!
